Like, whoa dude!

The video below was one I shot after returning from our morning on the ship collecting samples. You can't see it from this, but there is a long jetty running to the south that protects this part of the shore. There was actually a massive (20 people) demonstration (peaceful) of surfers when the built the jetty because it ruined the great waves at this place. Nevertheless, you see that this surfer (and others I saw like him) found a way to get around anyway - and make it to the "real" ocean.

CAG (not GAG) Conference 2008

I went to the California Association for the Gifted (CAG) Conference in Anaheim this past week - and Mom went with me! We left on Valentine's Day (and had a very nice evening together). Actually, earlier that day I surprised Mom at work with a pink carnation and a cup of her favorite ice cream. Chocolate Chip Mint, in case you didn't know.

Anyway we had a GREAT time and have posted some of the photos. I have more, including some short video clips I'll get on the site later.

The highlight was probably going to the Rain Forest Cafe in Downtown Disney. It was pretty noisy, but it was fun to hear the thunder and lightning come along every 20 minutes, and to see the great rain forest decor. The food was very good, even though I didn't get what I ordered. The problem is that it was so good, and I was so hungry that I didn't realize it was the wrong dish until I was done.

Be sure to scroll down to see photos from Mom's garden. Have a good week everyone!

My boat trip was rated ARRRHH!

This was not the ship we went out on. It was next to it. Ours was a research vessel. But this one did leave the dock while we were there. It left under power, then furled it's sails after it left.

The view of below from above

The first day of the conference we went out to pick up some research samples and got to see some whales and dolphins running along the side of the ship. This isn't a great photo, but it is a whale coming up for air. I tried to get a video of the dolphins, bu they wouldn't cooperate.
These are Mom's first Irises of the year. They actually bloomed three week ago when it was really cold and rainy. Go figure.

The Primroses along the front walk are looking very good. Mom does great things.

This is the first rose of the Spring. I suspect that the roses are Mom's favorite part of the garden.
