From the "Land of Ice and Snow"

That's a direct quote from a cassette tape Rich sent to me when I was in the LTM (Language Training Mission, later to become the MTC) at Ricks College Nov/Dec 1975. Back in those days the Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finish, and Dutch) were taught there while all the rest were taught in Provo. But I digress. . .

The two photos below also come to me by way of Rich, from Peter. The first you'll recognize as "All Halls" except for the good friend of the family LeighAnn Whitaker, on the left.

The second photo is just a group of goofy BYU-I students (are there any other kind during the winter months there?). Peter Ottley is easy to spot - is David Peter just as easy find?

Baby Molly Arrives Right on Time

I know the whole family knows this already, but let me tell you how we heard the news. I had just come home from the second WONDERFUL session of stake conference, in fact I was dropping a projector off at Uncle Richie's (he had loaned us his) when I got a text message on my phone from Rob. Since Lorna is the only one who texts me regularly so I knew something was up. It was sent at 9:38 pm and said #3 is on her way!

Well, I was excited and wanted to show Mom, so I didn't bother to text Rob back. I left my phone on a waited for the follow up call. It never came - at least not to that phone. In the morning we got up and sure enough, there was a message on the answering machine that Molly had been born at 12:05 am.

So leave your comments (I fixed it so that you can now) on how you guys got the news. Mom is leaving this Thursday to stay a week with Pam and her family. (I get the whole bed to myself and eat In-N-Out whenever I want - yea!)

Oh, Rob took Grant to the hospital to see his Mom and new baby sister. His response? "I like Molly!"

Valentines Day Update

Just to keep you n the loop, we've gotten most of the way through the top layer of chocolates, the cookies on the tray are all gone, the strawberries and whipped cream (a tie for 'best treat' with the cookies) are half gone, and we've watched two of the movies - Adam's Rib (my favorite) and Bringing up Baby. For those who don't check the comments, Rob bought the same DVD for Pam and they watched 'Baby" also. And for Lisa, my students tried to talk me into going home too, but I toughed it out - just for them.

It's been rainy, windy and cold here. And in spite of being at the Church longer than I had hoped, I met with two very fine young women today, in separate interviews, as they prepare to go to the temple for the first time. One of them many of you may know: Carlyn Fisher (daughter of Parley and Linda) who is getting married in April. Doing these interviews is one of the really fun parts of my current calling.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY !

Hope you are all having a great day. One of the best things for me so far today was getting to sleep in. I've been trying to get over a cold that has left me voiceless for two days. The next three days without having to speak much is a welcome relief.

In the photo below you'll see the red tulips and candy I got for Mom, and the strawberries, whipped cream and DVD she got for me. The DVD has four Katherine Hepburn movies on it. Two with Spencer Tracy and two with Cary Grant. What a surprise! Since it's rainy here today I may just 'veg' out and watch movies all day.

The photo on the right is a 'warts and all' shot taken just after we got up and moving this morning. One of the cards I got your Mom (I always find more that one that I feel like I should get her) said: "Thanks for putting up with me all these years. Even all those times when you were mad at me for no reason." I thought that expressed it well. We both laughed.

Busy is when you don't have enough time to get everything done. . .

. . . lazy is when you don't have enough ambition to get everything done. Which am I? Virtually always the latter.

Things are doing fairly well at school for this time of year. Church work is steady, but not overwhelming - in fact quite enjoyable. Today I'm taking a day off from running to rest a sore knee (make that way from kneeling on our kitchen floor trying to get the new garbage disposal to stop leaking), and doing "at home" types of work in my office. Maybe something exciting will happen this weekend for me to share. Maybe I'll talk Mom into going to the snow with me Monday! Have a good weekend.
I don't usually like to post photos that others in the family already have on the blogs - but this was just too much to pass up. Grant - in a princess dress -and wearing his red cowboy hat. On top of that he's "pretend fishing" with a pool float noodle - sitting on his bed. Different doesn't begin to describe that boy's personality. And the worst part is that I understand just where he's coming from.
